The National Institute of Integrative Medicine (NIIM) in Melbourne ran a three-month Prostate Cancer Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) Study, assessing photodynamic therapy in men with prostate cancer.
The study was led by Dr Donald Murphy (Emeritus Urological Surgeon), A/Prof Karin Ried (Director of Research, NIIM) and Prof Avni Sali (Director, NIIM). It used intra-treatment fluorescent photography of the prostate, together with urinary proteomic analysis and circulating tumour cell (CTC) testing, as measurable parameters of treatment.
In January 2024, NIIM reported that recruitment had been completed and that the data were being analysed and written up for publication. This body of work forms part of the scientific foundation for the ImmunoPDT programme.
